Bomb Squad gets 1st Win of the Season!
5/23/2013

A brief drizzle in the middle of the game couldn't stop the Bomb Squad from getting it's first W of the season. After a back & forth battle, the BS was down 1 in the bottom of the 9th when Corey of house Terrell legged out a HR on his only hit of the game to tie it up 9/9 & send it to extra innings. Radio tagged on 3 runs in the top of the 10th to take the lead. Pat the Bat Muldowney started the inning off with a single, followed by a walk for Demel Davis. Jeff fear the beard Molinsky added a single to load the bases for Dean never heard a boy-band I didn't like Geoffrey who had already homered twice in the game. Dean connected on his 5th hit of the game with a single scoring Pat & Demel cutting the lead to 1. A fly out by Mel Davis advanced the runners to 2nd & 3rd. That's when lefty Joe Madersky came through with his first hit of the game scoring both runners for the walk-off win & the 1st W of the season. Joe received the game ball for his heroics & Dean finished 5/5 with 2-HRs, 6-RBIs & 4 runs scored.

Bomb Squad falls to 0-2
5/10/2013

After what looked like a possible mercy-rule game the Bomb Squad was leading 12-1 after 5 innings before the Webslingers turned it on outscoring the BS 20-6 over the final 4 innings. Jeff Molinsky had a solid 2nd game in his BS career going 5-4 with 2 RBIs & 4 runs scored. Demel "the other" Davis had a nice season debut by hitting for the cycle to go along with 4 runs & 4 RBIs. Dean Geoffrey led the BS with 5 RBIs & added to more HRs to his team leading total.

The holy-sh*t moment of game came defensively when Colby "Heavy-Hittah" Kelly turned 2-double plays while playing second, he also added 2 RBIs.

The Bomb Squad will look to get W #1 next Thursday vs. Almost Midnight.

Bomb Squad makes it two straight
5/19/2012

The Squad put together 9 innings of solid defense and timely offense to beat the Bugs 9 - 8 Friday to even their record at 2 - 2. After opening the season with 3 straight games scoring at least 18 runs, the offense was held in check by the Bugs perrenial Cy Young candidate on the hill. It was the bottom of the order that started late innings rallies twice in the game and the top of the order delivered RBIs at every opportunity.

Only a third of the way through the season... it has been packed with surprises already. After a shaking opening to the season defensively, the Squad has rebounded well in the past two games holding opponents under 10 runs each game. Shortstop Mel Davis has been sidelined the past two games with scheduling concerns. Jack Fugemann has filled in admirably allowing the rest of the defensive alignment to remain intact and excel. Yaw Ofori-Atta has played a Gold Glove quality 1st base leading an air-tight infield. The righty/lefty tandem of Dave Kalkanoff and Greg Vandermause have handle both the pitching staff and the bat. And the league's fastest outfield has covered ground as expected. The team has yet to field our best 10 players on a single day... and continues to improve.

The season's biggest surprise has been the offensive explosion from top to bottom. Aaron Siegel's golf swing from 2010 is long gone and he continues to put up legitimate softball statistics. Greg Vandermause is no longer the prototypical softball hitter, as he has added extra base hits to his arsenal. And Dave Kalkanoff and Jaime Turjillo consistently see the base paths in the bottom of the order, providing valuable RBI opportunities for the top of the order. New comers Pat Muldowney and Colby Kelly have also contributed.

The season continues next Thursday, May 24 against Finas Coladas.

Bomb Squad Drops the Season Opener
4/30/2012

The extra pre-season work was in display as the Bomb Squad swung the bats to a tune of 18 runs. The top 3 batters in the order combined to go 12 for 14 with 7 extra base hits, 7 runs scored, and 9 RBI. Dave Kalkanoff and Pat Muldowney each had 4 hits. And Aaron Siegel showcased his re-vamped off-season work out that resulted in the season's first HR, a line drive double, and 3 RBI. Despite the offense, the Bomb Squad fell to Radio 20 - 18.

Defensively, the team willl need to improve to hold the opposition south of 20 runs, but heavy winds definitely played a role. Yaw Ofori-Atta snared a would be line drive double down the first base line with a whirling catch to highlight the day. Matt Sivillo asked if we always played 4 outfielders to lowlight the day.

Right after a huge 6th inning, the lineup flipped drastically as the ESPN Intramural Basketball League acquired 3 of our players, and work stole another. The remaining team put up a valiant effort to complete the come back, but came up just short.

An encouraging start to the season that will continue Thursday, May 3 against ESPN.com.

2012 Season arrives Friday!
4/24/2012

A new season opens up this Friday with high hopes. The Bomb Squad returns a solid core of veterans that should keep us right in the thick of the playoff picture (assuming steady attendance).

Despite losing two key off-season acquisitions to personal and personell decisions, the club will boast a solid offense that returns the Brothers Davis, speedster Corey Terrell, slowster Andrew Copland, and Vandermause's Supersonic T-Shirt. All-World catcher, Dave Kalkanoff, Jack Fuegmann and Cory Davis all return for their second full season with the team as well.

In a key off-season move, Yaw Ofori-Atta was moved back to the night shift (suggesting regular at-bats). Equally important, pitcher Aaron Siegel was moved to the early shift(suggesting irregular at-bats). The team also adds actual softball experience in Nicole Edmonds and Erika Heyer. And the self-proclaimed "winners" Colby Kelly and Jackie Freesen are also on board.

This off-season we did say goodbye to whitty statistician Harry Hamamura, who will be missed. Upon his departure, we will be returning to a standard scoring system for the offical book this season (no deciphering necessary).

05/03/2011 - .COM @ Bomb Squad
5/08/2011

Pitching stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

9 INN / 5 R / 12 H / 3 BB / 1 K

85 PC / 56 Strikes / 29 Balls

A cleaner outing played out for the Bomb Squad as they kept .COM at bay with a 10-5 win at Page Park. The Webcrawlers rocked Bomber pitcher Aaron Siegel for 4 runs in the first inning, but found their offense at bay for most of the contest with only one run scored over the next 8 frames.

The Bomb Squad’s offense however showed consistency throughout the morning as they scored at least one run in 7 of 9 innings played. Seven Bombers recorded multiple hits against the .COM pitcher while all but three members of the Bomb Squad reached base. To further emphasize their all-around strength, 8 different Bombers ended up scoring at least one run during Tuesday’s competition.

As strong as their offense was on Tuesday, it could be said that the Bomb Squad stayed equally dominant defensively as well. Their solid gameplay forced .COM to see only four at-bats or less for 4 innings and no more than five at-bats seen over 8 innings of play. After the top of the first inning, Aaron Siegel pitched for a 1.13 ERA and 1.00 WHIP and quickly extinguished the .COM bats after their explosive start.

Web Gem Award: Air Geoffrey took to the skies at the top of the seventh inning as he dashed, dived and robbed .COM player “Red C” of a hit to end the inning.

Walker Texas Ranger Award: Bomber Toby Herschkowitz recorded 2 walks in the contest at Page Park which is now good for the team lead.

04/27/2011 - Sporty's @ Bomb Squad
4/28/2011

Pitching Stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

9 INN / 10 R / 16 H / 3 BB / 2 K

106 PC / 68 Strikes / 38 Balls

A tough home opener for the Bomb Squad as they lose a close one to the visiting Sporty's team 10-9.

Trailing 4-0 after three frames, Sporty's fought back to take the lead in the top of the 5th inning and regained another lead in the 8th after the Bomb Squad exploded for 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th. The Bombers had an opportunity to do some damage in the bottom of the 9th with the top of the order due to hit, but ended up quietly conceeding the game with 3 quick straight outs.

Next up for the Bomb Squad: 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 3rd at Casey Field vs DotCom

07/07/2010 - Bugs @ Bomb Squad
7/08/2010

Well that was an interesting game.

Trailing 14-12 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning, the Bomb Squad threw down 3 quick singles before outfielder J.T Cole roped a hit that cleared the bases for the miraculous win.

Representing the tying run, Bombers catcher Max Brodsky was chased by the Bugs pitcher after crossing home plate; erroneously pegged as not having touched the base. With the opposing pitcher distracted with trying to tag out Brodsky, extra hitter Chenille Hernandez tagged up third base and made the mad dash home for the win.

The victory against the 7-1 Bugs even the season record for the Bomb Squad at 5-5 and extended their winning streak to three with four wins out of their last five games.

Next up for the Bombers: Portal Kombat @ Casey Field on Friday, July 19th.

05/13/2010 - Bomb Squad @ ESPN Radio
5/13/2010

Pitching Stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

8 INN / 16 R / 29 H / 0 BB / 0 K

95 PC / 66 Strikes

Game Recap:

So much for the adage of saving the best for last.

Despite being outscored 9 to 3 in the final four innings against the Bomb Squad, the ESPN Radio team hung on for dear life and escaped Casey Field with a 17-16 victory. The turning point in the game occurred during the 3rd and 4th innings when Radio put on a hitting clinic that resulted in 11 hits and an additional 10 earned runs.

Despite the nine run deficit heading into the 5th, the Bombers stayed poised and kept the Radio offense off beat for the rest of the game; long enough to bring the game within a run for extra frames before popping up for outs in 3 of the four final at-bats.

Next up for the Bomb Squad: Nimrods at Page Park

Awards:

Web Gem: Second baseman Erin Molina's diving stab on Radio catcher Brown's liner through the middle infield for the first out of the 4th inning.

For Reals?!?: Pitcher Aaron Siegel cleared the bases like his doctor cleared his meniscus in the 7th inning to bring the Bombers within 2 runs of tying the game.

Mass Communication Majors: Left fielder J.T. Cole and left center Dean Geoffrey ran a converging cross pattern on a pop fly from Radio's Antonio in the 8th. While both outfielders had an opportunity to record the 2nd out of the inning, Geoffrey called off Cole, who instinctively dove out of the way in order to make way for the left center's flying grab. Great communication and teamwork all around.

Rosie Perez Award: Goes to Mel's dog; who's high pitched yipping could scrape the chrome off of a bumper ... and then set the shavings on fire.

08/21/2009 - Bomb Squad @ Stormers
8/21/2009

Pitching Stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

6.2 INN / 19 R / 29 H / 1 BB

108 PC / 74 Strikes

Game Notes:

"YEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!"

Stormers catcher Roach's obnoxious war cry haunted the Bomb Squad throughout Friday morning's quarter final playoff game as he and the rest of his squad ended the Bomber's 2009 season with a 19-6 shellacking at Casey Field.

The Stormers scored early and often as they sent at least seven batters to the plate to go along with four or more hits in five of the seven innings played in the mercy rule shortened game. The Storm lineup was productive from top to bottom with every player registering at least one hit and nine of the eleven batters earning multiple hits.

The Bomb Squad offense was on a roll early and kept the Stormers' lead within one run after the first three frames trailing only 7-6 heading into the fourth inning. At this point, Stormers pitcher Al settled down and proceeded to handcuff the Bomber offense to only four hits and a walk over the final five innings despite a more patient approach at the plate from the Bomb Squad. Stormer "Big Ben" mercy ruled the game with his 2-run bomb in the bottom of the seventh; which happened to drive in Roach for the final, "YeeeeeeEEEEAAAHHHHhhh!" of the game.

"YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH"

Final Awards:

Web Gem(s): In the bottom of the sixth Bomb Squad left center fielder Dean Geoffrey robs #78 of the Stormers of a perfect day at the plate by catching a ball with a full extension running dive in center. YEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH

Bomb Squad second baseman Toby Herschkowitz had a Jordanesque vertical leap for the final out of the third inning. YEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

Punxsutawney Phil Award: Bomb Squad outfielder Billy Emmert made his season debut for the Squad going 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. YEEEEAAAAHHHH

Old Asian Lady Behind The Wheel Award: Bomb Squad outfielder Corey Terrell for his hard slide into a pedestrian; or in this instance the Stormers' third baseman which represented the final run scored by the Bombers in the game. YEEEAAAAAAHHHH

YEEEEAAAHHHHHHHH Award: Goes to Stormers catcher Roach for settling down pitcher Al after the second inning which aided his team's YEEEAAAAaaawwwsome playoff performance.

YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!

07/30/2009 - Bomb Squad @ Research and Destroy
7/30/2009

Game Notes:

The Bomb Squad returned to their old stomping grounds on Thursday as they played Research and Destroy at Casey Field; home to a 5-0 Bomber team which had outscored their opponents 87-20. The Destroyers downplayed any notion of an advantage for the Bomb Squad however as they scored early and often in a 12-9 victory that handed the Bombers their fourth loss in the last six games played.

Research and Destroy's lineup applied constant pressure to Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel with their first six batters registering at least two hits each over eight innings and all players reaching base at least once. Patience at the plate did not factor into the Destroyer's game plan as more than half of their total at-bats resulted in first pitch swings and over three quarters of their balls put into play came from two pitches seen or less. The aggressive offense gave Research and Destroy a 10-3 lead after the first four innings which proved to be enough to defuse the Bombers.

The Bomb Squad will play their final game of the season at Page Park against Missing Timlin and former Bomber outfielder Todd Eckman on August 6th.

Awards:

Brilliant Mind Award: Bomb Squaders Toby Herschkowitz, Mel Davis, Yaw Ofori-Atta and Greg Vandermause for their 4-6-3-6-3-2 double play in the bottom of the eighth inning when Destroyer "Tall Blue" was caught trying to extend his single into a double; which resulted in confusion for teammate "Scotty" as he couldn't decide whether to stay at third or go for the score at home. The hesitation aided Bomb Squad catcher Greg Vandermause as he was able to apply the tag for the final out of the inning.

Web Gem: Bomb Squad second baseman Toby Herschkowitz for his running dive across the shallow right field in the bottom of the fifth inning to rob Research and Destroy's "Wierd Al" of a hit to end the frame.

Thirty Minute Hand-Off Play of the Game: With Bomb Squad designated hitter Chenille Hernandez on first base, left center fielder Dean Geoffrey roped a shot deep into the Destroyer outfield; allowing for a chance at a home run. Geoffrey's gazelle-like speed allowed him to catch up to his teammate for an unusual tag team slide into home with Hernandez. The Destroyers gunned the ball to catcher Alvin who couldn't apply the tag to Hernandez, but was able to stop Geoffrey from tallying an added run.

07/27/2009 - Bomb Squad @ Sportys
7/27/2009

Game Notes:

The Bomb Squad avoided another frustrating loss by defeating Sporty’s 15-10 at Page Park on Monday morning. The Bombers offense was put to the test early and often as Team Sport’s lineup rallied to either tie or take the lead in three of the first five innings of play. Once their defense tightened up after a loose fifth inning, which saw a blown five run lead, the Bomb Squad held Sporty’s to only two hits over the final four frames of the game.

The victory brings the Bombers to 8-3 for the year with an opportunity to end the season in double digit wins.

07/23/2009 - Bomb Squad @ Nimrods
7/23/2009

Game Notes:

It's 2008 all over again.

The Nimrods flipped the calender to yesteryear and repeated their offensive barrage that once again set a season high in runs against for the Bomb Squad. With the stage changing to Page Park this year, the performance remained the same for the Bombers as their costly errors and the Nimrods' timely hitting blew the game wide open in the top of the 6th inning en route to a 19-10 victory.

The Bomb Squad appeared to be in control of the game early as they led 8-2 going into the 4th inning; in large part due to doubles machine Demel Davis and RBI guru Mel Davis. Aggressive baserunning from outfielder Toby Hershkowitz and third baseman Andrew Copland also impacted the Bomb Squad offense as the Nimrods scrambled to end the third inning which tallied four runs for the Bombers.

Undaunted and chilled to the core, the Nimrods were able to cut the lead to 8-6 after taking advantage of four errors from the Bombers' infield in the fourth inning. Nimrods catcher Diamond Dave Kalkanoff reached base on the first of the four infield errors of the fourth which also allowed "Michael Keaton Clone" to score the first of four unearned runs that inning. Pitcher "Brown Pants" walked in his final at-bat for the game to load the bases for Nimrod slugger Brock Lesnar, who's MMA skills proved game worthy as he promptly reached base on an error at first. Substitute pitcher "Oldie" and third baseman "Skippy" also reached on infield errors which resulted in two more unearned runs before back-to-back flyouts from the Nimrod outfielders ended the calamity for the Bombers.

Unfortunately for the Bomb Squad, the Nimrods' fiery offense was far from extinguished.

The 6th inning proved to be the turning point in the game for the Rodders as they sent out a 14 player hitting clinic that racked up 10 earned runs on nine hits and 2 walks; which also included two base clearing triples. By the time the dust settled at home plate, the Bomb Squad found itself trailing 16-8 and having to face Nimrod fire baller "Oldie" for the remainder of the contest, who proceeded to limit the Bomber offense to two runs before the final out of the 9th.

The devastating loss is the third in the last four games for the Bomb Squad who look to return to their winning ways on July 27 against Sporty's at Page Park.

Meniscus Moment: Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel took an awkward stomp into first base on a grounder to end the third inning. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the meniscus meter, it would have to be a solid 7.

Abraham of Genesis Award: Bomb Squad shortstop Mel Davis with his back-to-back sacrifices in the third and fourth innings.

1989 Billy Martin Award: Bomb Squad outfielder Toby Herschkowitz for his head first slide into home off of third baseman Andrew Copland's base clearing single.

Match.com Award: Nimrod catcher Diamond Dave Kalkanoff went 4-for-4 on four singles. Gary Kremen would've been proud.

Gang Bang Award: The Nimrods team for their 6th inning no lube performance. No orifice was spared.

07/20/2009 - Bomb Squad @ West Hartford Whalers
7/20/2009

Pitching stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

9 INN / 1ER / 3 HA / 4 BB / 1K

Game Notes:

After dropping the last two games at Page Park and recording their only loses of the season, the Bomb Squad were back to their winning ways with a 13 - 1 dismantling of the West Hartford Whalers.

Sporting a complete lineup for the first time since June 23rd against the Decoy Coyotes, the Bombers went on an offensive rampage; sending no less than six batters to the plate in six of the nine innings played. The Whalers were unsuccessful in stopping the onslaught as they were touched up for runs in all but two of the innings. "Big Puma's" offense was the lone bright spot for West Hartford as he reached base in all of his plate appearances and drove in the only run of the game for the Whalers in the bottom of the first inning.

Behind outfielder Dean Geoffrey's five runs scored and shortstop Mel Davis' perfect 5-for-5 at the plate, the Bombers' offense was more than enough to secure pitcher Aaron "Honeymoon" Siegel's triumphant return to the mound after a one start hiatus. Rust showed early for the Bomb Squad ace as he gave up a tying run to Whaler outfielder and basketball specialist "Stumbles" in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by "Big Puma".

Unfortunately for the Whalers, shutdown softball quickly ensued.

Despite a few control issues resulting in four walks issued to West Hartford batters, Siegel was able to keep the Whaler offense at bay by sitting all of the first three batters faced in six of the next eight innings played, including his first looking strikeout of the season against West Hartford late fill-in "Shady McGee" to lead off the bottom of the 6th inning. The Bomb Squad defense continued it's strong showing throughout the contest, highlighted by a 1-4-5-6-5 tag to end the game.

Meniscus Moment(s): Strong base running from Bombers right fielder Mark Rogers resulted in a double to lead off the 7th inning, which was followed by another hard earned RBI double from left center fielder Dean Geoffrey.

Web Gem: After a flyout from Whaler "Edemame" for the second out of the ninth inning, the Bomb Squad infield scrambled for the third and final out with a 1-4-5-6-5 tag at third to end the game.

Johnny Cash Award: Third baseman Toby Herschkowitz walked the first base line in consecutive innings late in the game; the first resulting in a run scored off right center fielder Corey Terrell's bases clearing triple.

06/15/2009 - Bomb Squad @ Radio
6/15/2009

Pitching stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

6 INN / 6 ER / 10 HA / 2 BB

62 PC / 41 Strikes

Game Notes:

No man big or small could stop the Bomb Squad today as the Bombers set a season high in runs scored in a 23-6 romp against Radio at Casey Field. Pitcher Aaron Siegel had another solid outing behind the Bomb Squad defense by limiting Radio to only two innings with more than 5 batters faced in the six inning mercy shortened game.

Radio second baseman "Sex Machine" was the lone audiophile to register multiple hits in today's contest.

Offensive Players of the Game: Goes to the Bomb Squad outfield which accounted for 16 of the team's 23 runs.

Meniscus Moment(s): Aaron Siegel's aggressive baserunning in the 4th and 6th innings drew rave reviews from the bench, but also elicited a few, "OOOooooo...wait...naw nevermind he's OK."

Usain Bolt Award: Dean Geoffrey for his sprint across the left half of Casey Field in order to rob Radio slugger Jiantonio of a hit to start off the bottom of the 4th inning.

05/27/2009 - Anchor Steam @ Bomb Squad
5/27/2009

Pitching stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

9 INN / 4 ER / 14 HA / 0 BB

90 PC / 63 Strikes

Game Notes:

The Bomb Squad continued it's romp through the ESPN softball elite by dismantling the Anchor Steam on Wednesday which handed the Bombers it's first loss of the 2008 season in an extra innings heart breaker.

Anchor Steam pitcher Fritz had an interesting outing as he struck out five but issued four walks while giving up twelve earned runs to a Bomb Squad team which now improves to 3-0 for the season.

Offensive Players of the Game: Demel Davis & Mel Davis who were a combined 6 for 9 with 5 runs scored, 2 HR and 9 RBI for the day.

Web Gem: Shortstop Mel Davis' diving stab for the second out in the top of the 5th on Anchor Steam's Rusty Sands' pop fly into shallow right. A confusing scramble involving several Bombers ended with Mel emerging from the collective with the ball in stow.

Barry Bonds Award: 2008 co-walks leader Erin Molina registered two walks in her first two at bats today which vaults her back to the top of the Bomb Squad walk list for the 2009 season.

05/18/2009 - Bomb Squad @ ESPN.com
5/19/2009

Pitching stats for Bomb Squad pitcher Aaron Siegel:

6 INN / 3 ER / 10 HA / 1 BB

48 PC / 28 Strikes

Game Notes:

The Bomb Squad registered its second mercy win of the season after a sloppy ESPN.com team committed 5 errors in the top of the sixth inning which allowed the Bombers to gain the 12+ run advantage going into the bottom of the sixth.

Another solid outing from Aaron Siegel produced havok for the ESPN.COM team as they sent less than 5 batters up to the plate in four of the six innings played. Backup catcher Greg Vandermause also had a strong showing filling in for Andrew Copland as he reached base on 3 out of 4 plate appearances and drove in the 20th and final run of the game for the Bomb Squad. He was no slouch behind the plate either as he had no passed balls for the game.

The Bomb Squad have now accomplished in the first two games what took an entire season to do last year by winning its second game. The Bombers will have an opportunity next week to avenge one of their many losses last season as they face the Anchor Steam; a team which rallied in extra innings and handed the Bomb Squad their first loss of the 2008 season in a 14-16 contest.

06/11/2008 - Rockstars @ Bomb Squad Notes
6/11/2008

Pitching statistics for Bomb Squad:
9 INN / 15 HA / 3 BB / 1 K / 11 R / 2.00 WHIP
Total Pitches: 83 (31 B / 52 S)
Ground Balls: 11

Pitching statistics for Rockstars:
9 INN / 11 HA / 4 BB / 2 K / 6 R / 1.66 WHIP
Total Pitches: 122 (54 B / 68 S)
Ground Balls: 4
Fly Balls: 30

Game Notes:

Early deficits are proving costly for the Bomb Squad as the team suffered its third straight loss late Wednesday morning. The Rockstars scored four runs early in the first and never looked back as they finished the game with an 11-6 win; handing the Bombers their fourth loss of the season.

Eerily similar to the game against Research & Destroy just two weeks prior, the Bomb Squad for the second time this season failed to break 40 at-bats and registered only one extra base hit; a home run in the third inning from center fielder Pat Williams whom originally was questionable for today's game after pulling a hamstring in the later innings against the Fraggles last week.

The Rockstars on the other hand capitalized on five extra base hits; all of which either drove in runs or put runners in scoring position where they later scored; the only exception being a triple in the fourth which became fruitless due to shortstop Dean Geoffrey's inning ending double play.

The Bomb Squad, now 1-4 for the first third of the season, will have to wait until June 24th to turn things around when they face the Bugs at Page Park.

Notes:

Today's game was the first to be played without regulars Yaw Ofori-Atta (1B), Todd Eckman (OF) and Mark Rogers (OF).

Second baseman Aaron ("i" before "e") Siegel recorded his team leading fourth strikeout of the season; a swinging strikeout in the top of the seventh. He finished the day with a run and a single.

06/05/2008 - Bomb Squad @ Fraggles Game Notes
6/05/2008

Pitching statistics for Bomb Squad:
8 INN / 22 HA / 2 BB / 16 R / 3.00 WHIP
Total Pitches: 105 (40 B / 65 S)
Ground Balls: 14
Fly Balls: 31

Pitching statistics for Fraggles:
9 INN / 24 HA / 1 BB / 14 R / 2.77 WHIP
Total Pitches: 115 (40 B / 75 S)
Ground Balls: 13
Fly Balls: 37

Game Notes:

Similar to the first game of the season versus the Anchor Steam, the Bomb Squad found themselves down early as the Fraggles had a commanding 10-3 lead by the end of the fourth inning.

After giving up a lead-off double to Pat Williams and a two run home run to Scott Vigdor in the top of the first, the Fraggles pitcher settled down for the next four sets by allowing no more than four batters per inning.

The Bombers' bats finally found their rhythm in the sixth. Greg "Moose" Vandermause led off the inning with a "nice little dumper" to left field and began what turned out to be an all out hitting parade that included nine straight no out hits and a three run home run from Dean Geoffrey; finishing the inning with the score knotted up 10-10. The Fraggles however kept their cool and answered back in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own and added to their lead with three runs in the seventh.

The Bomb Squad rallied back again in the eighth after scoring four runs and coming within one to tie, but the Fraggles frustrated the Bombers by adding another run on a two out hit in the bottom inning and ended the game with three quick outs in the ninth.

Notes:

Today marked the first appearance of left fielder Doug Bloom who recorded a hit and an RBI against the Fraggles.

Greg Vandermause made his second straight appearance and first full start today for the Bomb Squad. Vandermause finished with two hits and a run. He came close to having a third hit in the top of the ninth, but a great stab from the Fraggles' pitcher instead gave him the first out of the inning.

Player/Manager Erin Molina recorded her fourth straight game with a walk by taking four straight outside pitches in the second inning against the Fraggles.

Jason Serino pinch hit for Molina in the 6th and reached first on a fielder's choice.

Today marked the first game where catcher Aaron Siegel didn't record a strikeout. YOU GO GIRL

Game Notes:

The Bomb Squad recorded 3 double plays on Tuesday, the first of which started from an outfield assist in the top of the 6th and ended as a 9-6-2 double play at home plate.

The infield stayed busy in the tops of the 10th and 11th as it turned two 6-4-3 double plays.

The second inning proved to be the deciding factor for the Bomb Squad as the Anchor Steam scored seven of their sixteen runs at the top of action. The half inning included a pair of base clearing doubles from both Steve Bunin and their three-hole hitter. The Bomb Squad were unable to retaliate in the bottom of the 2nd and finished the inning with 7 unanswered runs.

The Anchor Steam were limited to 3 multi-run innings throughout the 11 inning contest and only scored more than 2 runs once.

The Bomb Squad recorded three 1-2-3 innings against the Anchor Steam in the tops of the 5th, 6th & 10th. The Anchor Steam were only able to turn two such innings in the bottoms of the 6th and 11th.

And to end any argument about whether or not Aaron Siegel had two strikeouts for the game, here are his recorded at bats against the Anchor Steam:

3rd Inning - Ground Out
5th Inning - 1B
7th Inning - Strikeout (Foul Out)
9th Inning - 1B
10th Inning - Fielder's Choice
