Dusting Off The Keyboard

7/28/2015
Give the people what they want is what I never say... with that being said let's check in on everyone's favorite co-ed slow-pitch softball team in the YMCA league;

We got shit on by the Ducks to end the undefeated streak. It happens.
- We hype the ducks too much... it's just another team. Remember that Sunday.

After that we had a double header against Team Fresh seven days apart. Game 1 was won with defense 14-7 -- I'm sure the regulars who play awesome defense played awesome defense (a certain outfielder comes to mind) and those who hit timely I am sure hit timely. That's about as good as my memory goes for game one.

About last night;

We hit awesome last night. 24 runs is no joke. Some names to mention; A-Webs went 3-5 and even her outs were awesome.

Kel scored a run and knocked out the opposing teams catcher... who happened to be quite attractive... but I digress... way to play dirty Kel...

Ken went 4-5 and hit like 13 foul balls... keeping the pitch count up on our opposing pitchers...

Tom C smashed 3 doubles... god is he fast....

I got 5 hits but since I write this thing I'll just downplay it...

brandon and oakes had an RBI each... cute as a button....

and finally... Nadia Bodes had one hit last night.... It just happened to be a home-run with the bases loaded... Good job Nadia.

Tom started the game last night allowing only three runs after 4 - impressive. Timmy O came in for relief and allowed only 18 runs in 3 innings - also impressive.

The team showed good poise tho staying focused and pulling out the W.

We have a double header this Sunday... We play some softball team at 5 and then the ducks at 6:30

Mix in a water Saturday night kids.

Tech Stays Unblemished

Tech Stays Unblemished

After a brief journalism hiatus the Tree Tech beat writer is back at his keyboard.
Thoughts while I was away;
- We’re still undefeated.
- We still aren’t playing our best softball.
- Mike Lee pitched well last game.

Sunday games always have a weird vibe and yesterday was no different. We were missing some key players but the show must go on. The TECH jumped out to an 8 run lead in the top half of the first. Everyone pretty much got a hit as we batted thru the lineup.

We tried a new pitching combo tonight. We had KG start and give up many runs and then Big Pony Boy Tom closed out the last 6 in dominate fashion.

The bats we quiet for the Techers as we could only muster up 4 runs in the next 4 innings. In the late innings the Tech was able to use some timely hitting and solid base running to regain a healthy lead and take the victory.

Old Spike left the bump to play out where the real men play; in the outfield. He made a nice running catch and got a compliment from Coach Bodes – which was amazing because I know players who have been making plays in the outfield for 4 seasons and can’t muster a pat on the back, but I digress…

The Sabrin Machine played a great game at first. Kel actually wore the team jersey and stopped some softballs at second base. Mother Nadia played with her normal intensity in right and made a great catch somewhere in the middle innings to kill a rally.

- Things we can work on before the big showdown with the ducks on Sunday;
o Backing up outfielders.
o Pitchers staying on the mound during pop up (no third basemen wants to get run over by Tom)
o Laying off bad pitches.
o Rounding Bases – Base Coaching to tell runners when to take an extra base.
o Cut off man location. If we are cutting to second base, the cutoff man should reside somewhere remotely close between second base and the softball.
- For those who haven’t played the Ducks they hang their hat on pitching, defense, and patient hitting. They will take pitches, walks, and they will spray opposite field liners and bloopers to score runs.

Get your popcorn ready.

good stuff 12. i know you got some flack for the missing write ups but you're still more consistent than joe's stat updates.

The Tech wins a pitching dual.

6/23/2015
The old green and grey shirts were back at it Monday night.

Pitching and defense carried TT to an early 3-1, and then a 5-2 lead before squandering that lead to a 6-5 deficit heading into the last. TT was able to complete the comeback in the last inning and shut down D 5 to take the victory 7-6.

Some of the defense that stands out in my mind;

- Coach Bodes didn't bring his A game with the linup card but made up for it with some stellar plays at short including a big double play to kill a D5 rally.
- Brandon used some misjudgment on a fly ball to turn it into a spectacular catch around the 3rd inning.
- Spike Lee had his stuff going on the bump... Didn't get mad when the coach pulled him after throwing a 2 run gem thru 5 innings in slow pitch softball. I am pretty sure he got the win and the close?
- Other notables Flex, Oak, Alyssa, Kate, Kell, and Nadia also threw some leather around.

The bats weren't frequent but they were timely. Namely Tom C, Brandon, and Oak come to mind. In the last Brandon lead off with a big single. Then someone else got on, and Oaksey was able to knock em in for the go ahead runs in the last.

- Fun game and all but we will have to hit better to beat the defending champs come Sunday.

12 Out.

TT Happy with 3

5/19/2015
The Tech bounced back from an early deficit to take a 12-7 victory over the rivaled 'Caught Looking'. Things started slow against former TT pitcher Burger but picked up thanks to efforts at the plate by the following individuals;

Steacy went 4-4 hitting for the cycle, knocked in 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
Steets 4-4 scored some runs and got the bench fired up with some poor baserunning.
T-Flex went 3-4 from his leadoff spot, the bright shorts were cruising.
Cassie went 2-3 doing her job of getting thru the lineup.
Spike lee cruised a two and three quarter hopper into the woods late in the game for a run RBI triple. Rumors are speculating a random drug test has been issued to make by the ASLA (American Softball League Association?)

- The field played pretty consistent - Errors were kept to a minimum - Outfielders got the ball in quickly and infielders got in the way of it nicely.
- in one of the games innings we got out of bases loaded no out jam. Nice outfield assist by BS helped this cause.
- Game was closed out with a nice scoop by Alyssa after a questionable throw from #5.
- Everyones favorite parents were especially pleased with the win over their personal rivals.....It is rumored that Coach Bordieri and second basemen Nadia took their 'secret handshake' back to their place after the game ;-)

The team will unquestionably be expected to stay in top physical shape during this layover and are expected back June 1st for a double header.

See you then.

2 Up 2 Down

5/18/2015
The men and women of team TT were at it again on Sunday. 2nd year duo Mike and Kel sprinted in from the airport and made a great impact. Mike got his first win on the mound while Kel showed off the jets on the bases.
- Defense was stellar again for the Techers... Alysaa in right is showing a thing or two to her surrounding outfielders (Tyler Felix) and doing it in style.
- Coach Bodes was asked about a questionable defensive substitution in the 5th inning which may or may not have led to a 4 run outburst by district 5. His response; "It's important to keep all players fresh especially this early in the season." OK Coach we'll buy that.
- lee, Oakes, Goodwin, Felix, Sestito, and Fierras each scored two runs. Sestito's second run came on home run in which he hit the ball and proceeded to run around the bases while the other team threw the ball around. Let that be a lesson for our defense moving forward.
- Tonight's game is the last contest in the month of May for TT and they will look to go into the break undefeated.

See you tonight.

New Name Same Game

5/14/2015
The Tree Tech squad - dudded in their new dri fit grey unis - won their opener 20-5 after 5 innings. As a team pitching, defense, and contact hitting were the keys to the victory.
- Individually we saw strong performances from new power couple Ken (5 IP 5 ER, W(1-0)), Sabrina (hit the ball hard ran the bases after hitting)
- Also new to the team Timmy O (1 home run) and Alsyysa showed promise at the plate.

- Returning for his 4th or 5th season as skipper Joe Bordieri was quoted after the game, "We had a great showing from the newbies... moving forward we will need to concentrate on eliminating errors as the competition picks up. Also we will be counting on our veterans for more consistency at the plate." Well said coach.

See you Sunday.
