TODD THROWS GEM, WHILE BERNARD & WAYNE KEY OFFENSE TO BEAT THE RED SOX 17 - 3

This game had several different twists. First both Teams could not score or hit early. In the 3rd we scored 4 runs on 3 singles and 3 errors by the Red Sox. Our defense was playing well thanks to nice plays from Ian in LF and Wayne especially when he threw a ball behind the runner at first to get him in a pickle that ended on a good throw from Rob to John at 2nd for the out. Paul & Stephen made a couple of good plays at 3rd, John played his solid game at SS, while Shawn made a couple of nice plays at 2nd and Rob picked a throw at 1st and stretched for another out. While the defense played very strong, Todd was pitching great as he would keep the Red Sox scoreless until 7th they scored a run and ended the game with 2 more in the 9th.
As the pitching and defense did their part, our offense clicked in the 5th for 2 runs as Stephen started the inning with a hustling 2B and scored on a 1B to LCF. Then an error gave us our 2nd run of the inning. In the 6th Shawn hit a 1B, Brady had a 2B, followed with a nice sharp 1B by McDevitt that scored 2 more runs.. Todd scored the 3rd run on a sharp 1B to LF to put us ahead 9 - 0 after 6 innings. We continued scoring runs with 1 in the 7th on a RBI 1B by Paul, then 3 runs in the 8th thanks to key RBI 1B's from McDevitt & Todd. We ended the game with 4 more runs in the 9th on 5 hits one for 2 runs on a pinch hit 1B from Coach. John, Ian & Mike G knocked in the other 3 on RBI 1B's that gave us a 17 - 3 win over the Red Sox.
DEFENSIVE WEB GEMS: Ian diving grab in LF, Brady one in LCF, Paul & Stephen 2 good plays at 3rd and Wayne with a heads up throw behind the runner at 1st for an out as the runner was nailed in the pickle at 2nd on a nice throw from Rob.
OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: Shawn 3 hits & 3 R's, Wayne 3 hits & 4 R's, McDevitt 2 hits for 3 RBI's & 2 R's. Rob, Mike G & Todd all collected 2 hits each. John, Ian, Paul, Brady, Stephen, Jay & Coach also contributed with a hit.

TODD GOES 6 - 6 & 5 RBI's, ROB 7 RBI'S, PAUL 2 RUN HOMER THAT IGNITED TEAM TO A 31 - 11 WIN VS COBRA KAI.

The Green Monsters knew they were facing a tough opponent in Cobra Kai this past weekend based on the scouting reports. In the 1st inning it sure looked like a big win maybe in-line for Cobra Kai as they hit line drives all over the field for 4 runs and they made two good defensive plays. By the 3rd inning down 6 – 3 we knew that this game was going to be a true test and measuring tool for us. Have we improved after 2 years and are we a Championship Contender. By the fifth inning both questions were answered as we put up 18 runs. As the game continued, the Coach kept saying, "keep the foot on the pedal" Cobra is a good offensive team. We did just that scoring 13 more runs in the final four innings for a 31 – 11 victory.
So, how did we score 31 runs one may ask? We sprayed the ball all over the field line to line with 34 hits. Down 6 – 3 going to the 3rd inning An RBI 1B one of 6 hits by Todd got us going. Larry followed up with a line drive RBI 1B and Rob hit a 1B for 2 runs, this after a 2 run inside the park homer in the 2nd. As the 3rd inning continued John drove in 2 more on a 1B that put us ahead 12 – 6 going to the 4th inning. Another 1B for 2 runs by Todd and a RBI 1B from Larry would get things going. Then the most celebrated hit by this team for 2011 came from a 2 run Homer by Paul to LF. Everyone on the team would greet Paul at home plate, some saying, “were did that come from”? After that hit gave us a lead of 18 – 6 going into the 5th inning there was no way this team was going to lose this game. However, as Coach reminded everyone again we still need to score against Cobra Kai.
With RBI 1B’s by Todd & Rob in the 6th, two more runs on RBI 1B’s by John & Ian came in the 7th and the third HR of the day for the team came in the 8th inning from Sean to put us ahead 25 – 11 going to the 9th inning. If we put up 6 more runs the game would be over. An RBI 1B by John, a RBI 3B from Ian, who scored on a errant throw, and then the final run for the slaughter rule win came from Todd his 6th hit on the day as the team screamed, “strike him out so we have a 30 pack the next game”, nice teammates we were, HA!
DEFENSIVE NOTES: Although Cobra Kai did score 11 runs due to some errant throws and a few bad plays, the team did come up with several nice put outs to support the outstanding job Todd did on the hill. Paul it seemed all game fielded several line drives at 3rd, Scoop continues making plays especially on one were Shawn made a nice stop and threw the ball inside the line to 2nd while Scoop was moving towards the bag as he snared it out of the air to get the runner while off balance. Brady then made a spectacular throw from the outfield to cut down a runner at 3rd. Later Ian and Brady would came up with two nice grabs in the outfield to prevent any kind of comeback by Cobra Kai. Although all of these plays were web gems none was bigger than the stop Todd made on a line drive up the middle and throw to Paul to put an end to any big offensive inning by Cobra Kai.

McDevitt a HR, two 1B’s, 4 R’s & 3 RBI’s. Rob 2 run Homer, two 1B’s plus 7 RBI’s great job. Ian 3 hits, 3 R’s & 2 RBI’s. Brady 3 hits, RBI & 3 R’s, Bernard 2 hits, 2 BB's & 3 R’s, Mike G 2 hits & 2 R’s, Larry nice game two 1B’s, 3 R’s & 2 RBI’s, Stephen a 2B, Jay a 1B and two BB’s, Wayne a 1B & 2 sac fly outs and finally Coach, whom Brady said pinch hit for late had a 1B, what can I say had to live up to his great hitting, Ha!
In summary, we know the season is early, but the team answered two questions, can we hang with the top teams and raise or level of play in the hopes of capturing a win. On the light side while having a cookout we saw a first, Cobra having PIZZA delivered, way to go.

TEAM WINS AGAIN 23 - 6 VS GOOD BAD & UGLY THANKS TO 5 EXTRA BASE HITS BY JAY & MIKE G.

Behind a nice pitching performance by Todd and clutch hitting from Jay & Mike G, the team beat the Good Bad & Ugly rather easily. The bats put up 11 runs in the first two innings and never lost it. John started the 1st like he has done most games with a 2B, Ian followed with a 1B and then Brady drove in both runners with a 3B. McDevitt would follow with a RBI B. Later in the inning Mark & Paul would hit RBI 1B's that was followed up by a RBI 2B from Jay & a RBI Sac Fly by Mike G to put us ahead 8 - 0 after the first. In the second inning we would score 3 more times. Then in the 3rd another run came across the plate for a 12 - 1 lead after the 3rd inning. The game was more or less put away in the 4th when we put up 9 runs thanks in part to a 1B for 2 R's by Mark and a two run 3B from Jay. The Good Bad and Ugly did manage to score 5 more runs, while we tacked on 2 more in the 7th for a lopsided victory 23 - 6 and 4th win of the season.
With our defense and strong pitching from Todd the game was very much in control most of the game. One particularly nice defensive play came on a hot shot back to Todd that he snagged and nailed the runner on 1st for a double play.
Defensive Plays: The double play from Todd & Shawn was great. In all the team played steady on defense aside from a couple of inning we threw the ball away which can occur in a lopsided game.
Offensive Stars: Jay had two 2B's & 3B for 3 RBI's & 2 R's. Mike G a 1B & two 2B's with a sac fly. Paul and Ian chipped in with 3 hits each. McDevitt nice game with a 2B & 3B & 2 RBI's. Brady had a 2 run 3B for early lead plus a 1B, Scoop 2 hits, 2 RBI's & 2 R's. Mark collected 2 hits for 3 RBI's & 2 R's and Stephen had a Sac Fly & 1B for 3 R's & 3 RBI's. KEY HITS BY BERNARD 5, STEPHEN 3 & LARRY 3, LEAD TEAM TO 24 - 10 WIN VS STOUT MEN!

Although the score would indicate this game was an easy one for us. On the contrary as it was all tied up at 7 going into the 6th inning, when our bats exploded for 6 runs. The Team never looked back after the 6th. Two RBI 1B's by Bernard and Larry put us ahead 2 - 0 going into the 4th. At that point of the game we would put up 4 runs to increase the lead 6 - 0. The key hits coming again on a RBI 1B from Bernard & a 3B by Larry for 2 runs. Paul would follow with an RBI 2B by Paul. Stout Men would answer with 5 runs in their 4th and then 2 in their 5th to tie the game up 7 - 7.
As we came to bath in the 6th, this is where the game changed, as our offense stepped it up big time. Two key hits a 1B for 2 RBI's from Larry and a RBI 2B from Ian put us ahead by 6 heading into the 7th. We increased the lead by 3 with the hit being a 2 run Homer from Stephen to the RF corner. The "Pert Plus" guy was motoring around the bases to score his HR. In the bottom of the 6th Stout Men tried to start a comeback with 2 runs, but the game was out of reach. A 2 run 2B from Brady in the 8th & RBI 1B's from Mark & Paul. Ian and Brady in the 9th ended our offensive day to gain another win 24 - 10 vs Stout Men.

IAN GOES 4 FOR 4 & DEFENSE HAD 3 WEB GEMS TO BEAT MIDLIFE CRISES 12 - 7!

It was a well played game by both teams. There was timely offense and very good defense throughout the game by both teams. The Green Monsters took an early 3 to 1 lead after the first, the key hit being a 3B by Ian. It would be the first of 4 hits on the day for Ian. Later in the 3rd, Midlife scored 3 to take a 4 to 3 lead, but the Green Monsters would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning 5 to 4. In the 5th, the Green Monsters added to their lead with 4 runs. The key hits coming on 2 RBI sac flies from Larry & Brady and RBI 2b's from Paul & John. In the 6th, Midlife Crisis came back with 3 runs, while the Green Monsters scored once increasing their lead 10 to 5. Although Midlife Crisis played well, it was not enough to beat the Green Monster this day losing 12 to 7.
Offensive Notes: Ian #1 star with a 4 for 4 day, John Scoop and Stephen collected 3 hits each. Wayne, Brady, Rob & Paul each had 2 hits. Paul also made a heads up tag at 2nd to get to 3rd on a sac fly by Larry. Jay & Mark both had a hit each. The team did collect a total of 19 hits with several being key ones.
Defensive Notes: With the score 5 to 4 in favor of the Green Monsters in the 5th Larry made a spectacular diving catch in RF to help the team get out of the inning. ESPN caught that WEB GEM for certain. Jay and John connected on a very nice play for on out at 2B. Paul played great at 3rd with one snag in particular on a dive to his right preventing a line drive for a double down the left field line in the eight. It was another WEB GEM. Todd leaping grab of a line drive up the middle was another, “who said white men can’t jump”, WEB GEM for the team.
In summary the game was exciting going back and forth until the Green Monsters captured their second win of the season 12 to 10 0ver Midlife Crises.

TEAM KICKS OFF 2011 SEASON WITH A WIN 19 - 6 VS JOE BOYS AS G-MAN HAS 4 RBI'S!!

Behind the very nice pitching performance by Todd and clutch hitting from Jay Johnstone the team won its first game of 2011 in fine fashion. The team had the game in control right out of the gate scoring 4 in the first inning. John started the inning off with a sharp 1B, Ian followed later with another 1B setting the table for a 3 run Homer by Brady. Shawn Bernard would then hit a sharp 2B and score on a 1B by Jay Johnstone to put us ahead 4 - 1 after the first. In the second inning we would score 4 more times with Mark leading off with a 1B, Rob connecting for a 2B and Mike G-Man scoring both on a sharp 1B. Wayne would later drive in Mike with a 1B followed by an RBI 2B from Ian to scoring Wayne for the 4th run. With our defense & strong pitching from Todd the game was very much in control 8 - 1 after two innings, but we knew that against Joe's Boys they would not go down easy.
With that in mind the team continued to knock in more runs to increase its lead. We scored 5 in the third inning with the key hits coming on a RBI 2B from Jay and a 2 run 1B by G-Man. In the fourth inning the team would score 6 more runs on a RBI 1B by Sean McDevitt, Bernard, Larry, Todd and 2 from Rob. Joe's Boys ended up scoring five more runs for the day, but it was not enough to beat us.
Defensive Plays: John Scoop, "ESPN WEB GEM" snagging a line drive up the middle. Jay a nice clutch double play with John. Brady and Ian very steady in the outfield. Mark a great job at C, as Todd said after the game he kept me in a rhythm. Todd got a game ball for his pitching performance.
Offensive Stars: Brady 3 run HR, Jay 2 hits & 2 RBI's clutch AB's, John 2 hits, Bernard 2 hits & 3 R's, (must be the loss of weight as he has no speed Ha!), Ian 2 hits an RBI & 2 R's, Rob 2 hits and 2 RBI's, Wayne RBI 2B, Todd RBI 1B, Mark and Larry a hit each. McDevitt great day two 2B's & a 1B and G-Man 3 - 3 with 4 RBI's.

GREEN MONSTERS COMES IN FIRST WITH 17 - 12 WIN OVER LOWELL SPINNERS!

Although the team was missing several players it pulled itself together as one to beat a pesky Lowell Spinners Team who had been playing good ball the past 7 games. It was a game of some key defensive plays & timely offensive hits and good pitching.
The Lowell Spinners jumped ahead early with a run in the first and may have scored a few more if not for a very nice stab at first base by Todd. Trailing 1 - 0 as we took the plate in the third Jay Johnstone & Larry got things going with back to back BB's that set up Aaron for a RBI line drive 2B & a Wayne RBI 1B. Ian put up the 3rd run and Shawn an RBI 1B to give us a 4 - 1 lead. The Lowell Spinners bounced right back in the bottom of the inning with 7 runs 3 coming on a HR. In the fourth, down 4 runs McDevitt & Mark hit solid 1B's and Todd came up big with a deep Sac Fly to LF that got us with 2 runs 8 - 6 after four innings.
The Coach hit a line drive 1B to get things started in the fifth. Aaron followed with an RBI 3B & Wayne a RBI 1B. Ian then stepped up big time with a key 2 run Homer to LCF that put us a 10 - 8 lead. Again the Lowell Spinners showed why they are now a tough team as they came right back to regain the lead with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth. As we came to bat in the sixth down by a run, Mark & Todd got things going with solid 1B's that set up Jay for an RBI 1B, the Coach & Aaron for an RBI each to give us a 13 -11 lead. Thanks to a great defensive play by Mark on a ball hit up the middle and flip to Ian at 2nd we held them scoreless in the sixth.
Both teams would exchange runs in the seventh. In the eight we added 3 insurance runs as Todd got it going with a drive to LF for a 2B, Larry knocked him in with a 1B, the Coach walked and then Wayne hit a huge 2 run 2B to give us a 17 - 12 lead heading to the bottom of the eight. Shawn pitched strong and the defense backed him up as we shut down the Lowell Spinners their last 6 at bats to capture a 17 -12 win and first place for the season.
DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: Todd made a great stab on a line drive at first. Mark had a great web gem with a diving play on a ball hit up the middle and a flip to Ian for a key out. Jay did not have his best day at 3rd, but he prevented several balls from going down the LF line for hits. Ian filled in nicely for John at SS with a steady game.

Trailing 1 - 0 as we took the plate in the third Jay Johnstone & Larry got things going with back to back BB's that set up Aaron for a RBI line drive 2B & a Wayne RBI 1B. Ian put up the 3rd run and Shawn an RBI 1B to give us a 4 - 1 lead. The Lowell Spinners bounced right back in the bottom of the inning with 7 runs 3 coming on a HR. In the fourth, down 4 runs McDevitt & Mark hit solid 1B's and Todd came up big with a deep Sac Fly to LF that got us with 2 runs 8 - 6 after four innings.

THREE RUN HOMER BY BRADY, GOOD DEFENSE & PITCHING KEYS TO 10 - 7 WIN OVER STOUT MEN IN THE RAIN.

Although the weather was not good, it did not prevent our defense from playing a strong game behind Shawn as he pitched well. Brady hit a key 3 run homer in the first to get the team off on a good note with 6 runs. The team needed the big inning as Stout Men showed they have the hitters to win.
After Brady hit his 3 run blast to LF for the homer in the first, Shawn hit drove a ball to RCF, but fell going to 2nd so he had to settle for a 1B. Stephen then hit a 1B that set up McDevitt for a line drive 2 run 3B and then came into score on a Sac Fly by Ian for the quick 6 - 0 lead after the first. Stout Men did score 2 runs to come within 4 as we headed to the fourth. Ian & Mark hit back to back 1B's to start the inning that set up Paul for a RBI line drive 2B. John later hit a 1B for 2 runs to put us ahead 9 - 2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Stout Men scored 2 runs. We then came back with a run in the fifth on a 2B off the top of the RCF fence by Shawn & a Stephen RBI 1B to make it 10 - 4 us. Things got a little interesting in the bottom of the fifth as the rain was falling harder. The Stout Men needed to tie it up or take the lead as the game looked as if it would be called due to the rain soon. They managed to score 3, but it did not matter as the game was called while we hit in the sixth to make it an official game and win for us 10 - 7.
DEFENSIVE NOTES: John again had a solid game at SS and Paul at 3B. Mark kept the game moving along for Shawn with no pass balls, a key job due to the rain. The outfield played solid fundamental defense getting throws back into the infield quickly. It prevented 3 runners from advancing to third. They also backed up one another with the wet grass maybe being a factor nice job.

STEPHEN TIES GAME WITH HIT IN THE EIGHT & TODD WINS IT WITH ONE OVER WEEKEND WARRIOURS 14 - 11

This game was a true test for us as we played shorthanded with just 9 players. Having to go with only 3 outfielders against a good hitting opponent was going to be a challenge. We did overcome it and won 14 to 11 on a late eight inning rally for three runs. We came up big on defense at several key points in the game to prevent extended innings or ones from getting started as Ian and John came up huge all game. Shawn hurled another good game this time without a walk. He was backed by some good timely hitting from Stephen, Todd and himself with a key lead off 3B in the eight to ignite a 3 run come from behind inning.
Down 1 to 0 in the second inning, Stephen & Mark began things with 1B’s to set up Todd for a solid 2 run 2B and then Coach for an RBI. Wayne later drove in John on a 1B and Ian hit an RBI Sac Fly to put us ahead 5 to 1. The Weekend Warriors came back in their third to score 3 runs cutting our lead before we increased it in the bottom of the inning with 4 runs. Once again Stephen & Mark who got things going with 1B’s to set up Todd, Paul, Coach and Wayne for the RBI’s. In the fifth, the Weekend Warriors scored a run and then 4 more in the sixth to pull within a run after we had put one on the board in our sixth.
With a slim lead 10 to 9 after six innings, things were about to become interesting for the remainder of the game. In their seventh, they would string together some hits to take a 1 run lead 11 to 10. As we came to the plate in the eight down by a run the game was on the line. Shawn then took things in his own hands by crushing a ball to the RCF fence for a hobbling 3B to start the inning. Stephen followed with a big hit as he did all game, with an opposite field RBI 1B to tie the game. Mark then drove one to left for a 2B. It would be the third straight key hit of the game in the inning with a fourth on a RBI 1B from Todd to put us ahead. We added 1 more in the inning to take a 12 to 10 lead. Our defense then stepped up in the bottom of the inning thanks in part to a line drive catch by John at SS who positioned himself well with men on base to keep the score at 12 to 10 in our favor as we headed to the ninth.
Ian increase our lead in the ninth with a lead off 3B & scored on a Sac Fly by Stephen. In the bottom of the inning the defense & pitching from Shawn shut their offense down. The big plays of the inning came from two nice catches by Ian in left one the last one on a running grab towards the infield. He played very well filling in for Brady in left all day and has the knees to show for it after hitting the ground hard on a few catches.
DEFENSIVE STARS: John made several great grabs on hard hit balls at SS as he positioned himself so well all game on hitters. Ian played a strong game all day in left especially with two ninth inning grabs. Paul was steady at third. Wayne & Stephen came up big through the game with catches and hustle as part of our three man outfield nice job.
OFFENSIVE STARS: Stephen 4 hits one that tied the game in the eight. He also had 2 RBI’s & scored 3 R’s. Todd a great game with 3 hits for 4 RBI’s. Wayne, John, Mark & Coach 3 hits each. Paul had 2 hits. Ian and Shawn 1 hit each 3B’s, but at the key points in the game to start the eighth and ninth that tied the game & gave us an insurance run.

EARLY OFFENSE, STRONG DEFENSE & GOOD PITCHING FROM SHAWN HELPS TEAM BEAT LONG SHOTS 14 - 9

This was a key game in the standings as the team needed to win with the hopes Free Agents beat Forever Young. We walked away with a good team victory. The bats hitting good for the first 3 innings putting up 11 runs and the defense played sound with Shawn pitching well on the mound for us.
In the first, Brady got us going with a 1B, Wayne & Ian followed with 1B's with both scoring on a line drive 2B to RCF by Shawn. Stephen then hit a 1B for 2 more runs that put us ahead 4 - 0. The defense got us back to the plate quickly in the second for us to score 3 more times. Paul started the inning with a hard 1B, Coach hit one to set up Brady for a 2 run 3B. Wayne then hit a 2B for the final run & 7 - 0 lead.
Long Shots did manage to score 2 runs in their third & fourth, but our defense held them at bay for us to come up with 4 more runs to put us ahead 11 - 4 going to the sixth. Mark made a nice over the shoulder catch from 2nd down to the right field line and Brady made a couple of grabs in LF to support Shawn who was pitching well. The offense did score 4 runs in the third with Mark hitting a 1B, Todd a RBI 2B, Paul a RBI 3B and then Larry & Coach hit 1B's that set up Wayne for another RBI 2B.
In the middle innings the defense slacked off some. We did pull it together late for a 14 - 9 win, which is a sign of a good team. They did score 3 more runs our defense closed it out with two nice grabs in RF by Stephen & a double play started at SS by Paul. Shawn hit a solo shot to RCF in the seventh & the Coach and Brady hit two RBI Sac Fly balls in the eight to pad our lead for a win.

JOHN GOES 6 - 6, DEFENSE, OFFENSE & PITCHING STRONG AS TEAM BEATS BLACK SHEEP 23 - 4.

The team played a good game from all aspects to capture its 9th win of the season. This game was in control very early which allowed us to have lots of fun by moving some players to other positions later. The end result with all of these moves was they worked out well and we had lots of fun watching them develop under our eyes. It strengthened our team with more options if needed.
As for how the game played out it was over pretty much after the 4th inning with a 13 – 1 lead and Shawn pitching well after a little early struggle, the defense playing strong and the offense hitting the ball all over the field. Down 1 – 0 as we took the plate in the 1st, John hit a 1B to get things going, (1 of 6 hits on the day for Scoop). Wayne followed John with a 1B setting up Ian for an RBI 1B and Brady for a deep Sac Fly for a RBI. McDevitt then hit 2B to set up Shawn for an RBI Sac Fly for a 3- 1 lead. In the 2nd, we broke the game open with 6 more runs. Josh hit a 1B, Paul crushed a 2B to the RCF gap & Larry hit an RBI 1B followed by an RBI FC by the Coach. John continued the inning with a 1B. Wayne, Ian, McDevitt & Shawn then hit RBI 1B’s to put us ahead 9 – 1.

We did score 4 more runs in the 8th, while Black Sheep had 3 in their 9th. However, nobody was going to beat us or take away our Fun on this day. As Ian had fun with Josh the ump on balls & k’s while striking out a batter, Paul nearly having his face hit on a bad hop at SS, Brady looking good at 2nd, but being stunned on a throw from Stephen thinking he was tagging first base for an easy out and Wayne getting ready to back up 1B for the 1st & 2nd hitters, but then realized what the hell are my doing, Ha. Meanwhile, Shawn in the dugout was enjoying all of this while yelling out, “I can get a win and a Save with Ian trying to pitch”. In the end Ian did get the save, the team won 23 – 4, the offense & defense played strong and we had Fun.

Shawn pitches gem of a game and is backed by superb defense from John at SS along with very good team offense to give us our 8th victory over the Red Sox 21 - 4. We do need to say thanks to two special players on this day. Josh our reserve player stepped up huge with 4 hits, 4 runs and good defense. Jay, who played 2nd, turned over DP’s with John at SS and made steady solo plays all game. As a fill in for us from Good Bad and Ugly Jay not only distributed on defense he added a nice offensive game with 3 hits, a walk, Sac Fly for 3 R’s and an RBI. Great job by both Josh and Jay thanks.
As for the game we jumped out early in the first with 2 runs. John hit a shot for a 3B and Ian crushed one for an RBI 2B for the first run. Shawn then hit a 1B scoring Ian. In the third, Ian hit another 2B deep and came in on a RBI well hit 3B by Brady for a 3 - 0 lead going to the fourth. The team opened up its offense in the fourth with 6 runs. McDevitt who hit the ball hard all day, got it started with a 1B, Larry took a BB, Todd hit a solid RBI 1B, Josh a 1B to load the bases for a RBI Sac Fly from Jay. The inning continued with the Coach working a BB so top of the order could produce. John, Wayne & Ian would hit RBI 1B’s to put us ahead 9 – 1 after four innings.
In the sixth inning, we added 3 more runs as Josh walked, Jay hit a 1B and the Coach knocked in both on a 3B. John then hit a Sac Fly to score the Coach. Neither team scored in the seventh, but in the eight we put up another 6 run inning to make it 18 to 2 us. Todd & Josh hit back to back 1B’s to start the inning. Jay walked a BB and the Coach for 2 RBI’s on a 1B. John followed with an RBI 1B, Wayne walked setting up back to back RBI Sac Fly Balls by Ian, (one with John coming in from 2nd) and Brady. Shawn closed out the sixth with a line drive RBI 1B his third hit of the game to give us the commanding 18 –to 2 lead with one more inning to play. In our ninth, Wayne & Ian collected RBI 1B’s scoring Jay and John. Earlier John scored Josh. The Red Sox did put up 2 runs in their ninth as they collected 4 hits, but it was way too late.

Josh played steady all game and he made a nice double play on a throw to John at SS. Todd played excellent at first as he stepped up big with all of missing player’s nice job. Shawn made some plays on the pitchers mound and pitched great to give the defense a chance to make outs behind him all game.

DEFENSE LEADS TEAM TO AN 8 - 2 WIN OVER GOOD BAD & UGLY

This was a game our offense should have scored plenty of runs, but did not. I t did however play very good defense, aggressive base running and nice pitching. Three pitchers Shawn, Todd and McDevitt pitched well enough to give us the victory.
The team took an early 2 - 0 lead in the first and never lost it. An RBI 1B from Ian & Sac Fly by Jeff S gave us the two runs. In the third we increased our lead to 5 -1 with Jeff M starting the inning with a 1B, Wayne a 2B that set up Brady for an RBI 1B, Ian an RBI SAC FLY on a ball he nearly hit out of the park and an RBI 3B from Shawn on a deep drive to RCF. In the sixth we put up 2 runs to take a 7 - 1 lead. Again it was the top of the order that produced as Jeff M got things going with a 1B, Wayne hit a 1B and Brady connected for an RBI 2B that scored Jeff M. Ian again came up with an RBI Sac Fly for the second run.
As the team had this game in control, we did add a run in the eight as Mark hit a 1B and scored an a RBI 1B by Jeff M. In the ninth, we gave them 1 run, but it was not enough as they lost 8 - 2.
DEFENSIVE NOTES: The team defense was strong all day which included a thrilling pickle situation that just about everyone got to take part in. The Coach made a nice tag at home on a good throwfor an out. Although he took a blow to his head, he felt good making the out. It somewhat made up for his Bone Head play earlier while he coaching third base. Because he told Shawn there was two outs when we only had 1. The play was so wrong that the team along with Kim reminded him of the fact long after the game he owes a 30 pack for having his his head up his ass.
OFFENSIVE NOTES: Jeff M had 3 hits & 2 R's, Wayne 2 hits and 3 R's, Brady 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Ian a hit, 2 key Sac Fly Balls and 3 RBI's. Shawn an RBI 3B. Mark 2 hits. Larry, McDevitt and Stephen had 1 hit each.

FOREVER YOUNG WINS 24 - 13 TO END TEAMS WIN STREAK.

The game was close for 3 innings 9 - 6 until the fourth until Forever Young put up 7 and we came back with one to make it 16 - 7 until the seventh when they added 2 more for a 18 - 7 lead. In the eight we showed our attitude as it was throught the game was hungry as we never gave up. We came back with 4 runs in the eight to make it 18 - 11 heading to the ninth, but Forever Young showed why they are such a strong team as they would put an end to any comeback win for us by scoring 6 in their 9th. Down 24 - 11 we still tried as we put up 2 runs for the final 24 - 13. It was a good sign that the team tried several times to mount a comeback, but on this day it was not enough. The team attitude was good and our offense for the most part did well against a very tough pitcher. Our defense was not great, but not bad so we need to come away from the game knowing that we need to play our A Game the next time we meet Forever Young for the Easton Division Finals, RIGT!!!

JOHN HAS 5 HITS, WAYNE 4, BRADY 3 ONE A GRAND SLAM TO HELP TEAM BEAT FREE AGENTS 22 - 19

What a game we played, TEAM EFFORT all the way. The big inning 12 runs in the 2nd, but the Free Agents came back all game to make it close. Shawn hung tough on the hill all game and got great support from the defense to win 22 - 19 against the 2009 League Champs. A very nice win after beating undefeated Crush the week prior.
Alright here is the game recap the best it can be explained. Both teams exchanged 2 quick runs in the first before we exploded for 12 in the 2nd to take a 14 - 2 lead. In the first John, Wayne and Brady hit back to back1B's to start the inning, but John was thrown out at third on a good throw from LF. Ian would hit a 1B to load the bases for a 2 run 1B from Shawn. In the 12 run second Larry got us going with a solid 1B his first of two in the inning. Stephen & Todd followed with 1B's before the Coach in his only AB drove in 2 runs with a 1B. John & Wayne again hit 1B's setting up Brady for a Grand Slam, nice. Ian & Shawn started things again with 1B's. Mark & McDevitt would score both before a line drive 2 run 1B by Larry and a RBI 3b from Stephen would end the inning to give us a 14 - 2 lead heading to the third. We knew as a team Free Agents had the talent to get back into the game which they did in their 3rd, 4th & 5th to make it 14 - 11 as we came to the plate in the fifth.
An RBI 2B by Stephen, a clutch RBI 1B by Todd and a Sac Fly from Paul gave us 3 runs to increase our lead 17 - 11 going into the 6th. Again the Free Agents proved why they were the Champs of 2010 by scoring 5 runs. A very nice play on a tag for an out by Mark could have opened things up more for their team. In the bottom of the inning we stud our ground by coming back with 4 runs with the key hit being a 2 run 2B by McDevitt. Our top 3 hitters got us going again as John; Wayne & Brady came up with three 1B's. As both teams continued its battle with the score 21 - 16 us going into the 8th Free Agents would score 3 more runs to cut our lead to 2 runs. We did manage to get a big sac fly from Ian in the 8th to score John for a 22 - 19 lead before the last at bats for the Free Agents in their 9th. The defense was strong late especially with McDevitt making a grab at the top of the fence on a deep fly ball to RF. To finish strong with our defense was great as it has been the strength of the team so far.

BRADY HITS 2 HOMERS & IAN 1 HR TO BACK SHAWN's PITCHING AS TEAM BEATS CRUSH 12 - 10.

What a terrific win as the team knocks off undefeated Crush 12 – 10 for its fifth win of the year 5 - 1. It was a great TEAM effort, timely offense, good defense, superb pitching from Shawn and a great display of team unity.
Although Crush jumped out to an early 3 – 0 lead in the first the team pulled itself together right away to come back with 2 quick runs to come within 1 and not let the game slip away out of the blocks. Jeff started the inning off with a line drive 1B and score on a line drive 2B from Brady who then would be driven in by Ian for the second run. The Crush came back with 3 runs in the third, the key hit a homer 2. Trailing 6 - 2 we pulled it together as a team to try and hang with them scoring 2 runs of our own to cut the lead 6 - 4. Stephen and the Coach would start the inning with back to back 1B’s setting up RBI 2B’s from Jeff & Brady. The Crush would then come back with 1 run in their fourth.
Evan though Crush had scored 7 runs to this point, Shawn was on pitching a good game by keeping them from establishing big innings. Several Coaches have made the comment to me this year about Shawn, “he is bad, but very good”, you cannot square up and hit the ball. Shawn is very smart and crafty on the hill. If the defense can continue to play well behind him this team will go a long ways.
Trailing 7 – 4 the team knew if it could score it would win. It was a key point in the game with two outs the Coach would ignite the team with a 1B so the top of the order could come to the plate. Jeff would drive in the Coach with a 2B to set up a two run blast by Brady for a homer to tie the score 7 – 7 heading to the sixth. Todd and Stephen would come up big with back to back 1B’s that set up the Coach for an RBI giving us a 12 – 10 lead as we headed to the ninth. The team defense came up big behind Shawn as we shut Crush down to give us a 12 – 10 awesome victory.

Good defense, pitching and timely hitting leads the team to its 4th win of the season 10 – 9 over Weekend Warriors. The game was a very exciting one all the way as both teams played well with the worry of rain coming in to cancel things any moment.
The Weekend Warriors a strong team took an early 1 – 0 lead in the 1st. We would bounce right back in the 1st to take the lead 2 – 1. The Coach got it going with a walk, Jeff then hit a line drive 2B that set up a sac fly for Ian with Jeff scoring from 2nd for the 2nd run of the inning. An RBI 1B from Larry that scored Paul who walked increased our lead 3 – 1 after three innings. Then the fun started as both teams would go back and fourth with runs until the game ended.
They would tie the game up in the 3rd with 2 runs and take the lead with 2 more in the 4th for a 5 – 3 lead. You might say that they are our nemeses going back to last season as they have found ways to win it late. However, we were determined it would not happen again. We would quickly tie the game up in our 4th as Stephen & Mark hit back to back 1B’s and Wayne would score one run on a productive out to the right side of the infield. Paul followed with a 1B and Todd came up big with a sharp 1B to tie the game 5 – 5 after 4 innings.
With our defense playing very strong in the infield thanks in part to Jeff and Mark things looked good. Shawn Bernard again was pitching a gem keeping their hitters frustrated as they could not sit on a pitch to hit. He did get some increased support in the 6th as we put up 2 more runs thanks to an RBI 1B from Stephen and a sac fly by Todd. A key 3B by McDevitt got things going in the inning. We increased our lead to 8 – 5 with another run in the 7th as Jeff hit a 1B & Ian came up big with a hustling 2B setting Shawn up with a productive RBI out.
If the game had not been good up to the 7th; it sure got to be one the rest of way as the Weekend Warriors did not give up by tie the game up 8 – 8 after two outs in the 8th with 3 runs. In the 9th, they would take the lead 9 – 8 just like they did twice last year late in the game. However, this year our team was not walking away with another loss to them. In the 9th inning Larry came up with a huge clutch lead off line drive 1B, Jeff hit a 2B and Ian was internally walked that set up a force at any base or double play. However, Shawn was not having any part of that as he drove a 2B for solid line drive hit into the RCF gap that scored the tying run & winning one as Jeff crossed the plate with the team jumping up and down with its excitement.
DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: Ian in the 4th had a nice running grab with the game tied to prevent them from taking the lead. Mark made a very nice grab on a short pop up to RF in the 7th that prevented them from scoring. Larry made a running catch heading to the RF line in the 8th preventing them from opening up the game more. Wayne did his best in LF until his shoulder could not take it anymore and finished the game at first.
OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: Need less to sat the Star of the game was Shawn for his dramatic 9th inning game winning two run 2B, but he also contributed a 1B earlier in the game. Jeff had a big day 3 hits two for 2B & 3 R’s. Ian collected 2 hits, a sac fly and 2 RBI’s. Stephen 3 hits as he was aggressive at the plate and hit the opposite field when the play called for it. OFFENSE BIG AS GREEN MONSTERS BEATS LOWELL SPINNERS 24 - 6.

The team exploded early for 8 runs in the 1st and never looked back as it won big time behind the good pitching of Shawn Bernard once again. It was the first game that the offense scored big early which made the game FUN and relaxing.
In the 1st, Jeff got it going with a line drive 3B and scored on a 1B from Brady. Ian & Shawn would follow with RBI hits. McDevitt then hit a two run 2B & Mark hit a 1B setting up an RBI 2B by Todd. Paul then drove home Todd with a 1B and the Coach hit a line drive 2B to RCF for 8th run of the inning and the early lead 8 - 0. We did score another run in the 2nd as Ian hit a 2B to knock in Jeff who had hit a 1B earlier. The Lowell Spinners did score 3 of their 6 runs in the 2nd.
We opened the game up in the 3rd after they scored 2 runs to cut the lead 9 - 5. It was nice to see the explosion of runs as we scored 10 and batted around the order. Mark started things off with a 2B and later scored on a opposite field 2B by Wayne. It was great to see him check in with a good solid hit with his injuries. Paul & the coach then hit back to back RBI 1B's. Larry & Jeff continued the inning with 1B's and came home on a solid 2 run 2B from Brady. Ian followed with an RBI sac fly. McDevitt hit a 1B; Mark and Todd followed up with two more 1B's before Wayne came up with a 2 run 1B for his 3rd RBI of the game. As the team headed to the 4th leading 19 - 5 we knew the game was in hand if it continued to play good defense behind Shawn on the mound.
We ended up scoring 2 more runs in the 4th on a 2 run homer by Brady after Larry hit a 2B. Several runs were scored early in the game 21 for us and 5 for the Lowell Spinners, but after the 4th a total of 4 runs were scored. McDevitt and Paul added 2 RBI 1B's in the 8th for the final score 24 - 6.
DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: It was pretty much a steady game by everyone nothing stud out. We made the plays that needed to be done in support of a great effort by Shawn on the hill as he gave up only 5 earned runs.
OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS: Brady 3 hits, one being a HR & 5 RBI's. Paul had a huge day with 4 hits, 2 R's & 3 RBI's after he and the coach spoke about adjustments. Jeff 3 hits & 3 R's. McDevitt 3 hits for 4 RBI's. Mark 3 hits nice job by adjusting his hands at the plate. Wayne 2 hits for 3 RBI's, Ian 2 hits & 3 RBI's, Todd, Shawn & Larry 2 hits each and the coach 2 hits for 2 RBI's. The team collected 28 hits in all nice job.

GREEN MONSTERS TIMELY HITTING KEYS 12 � 9 WIN OVER PESKY BLACK SHEEP!!!

What a game this past Sunday. It took some good defensive plays at key points in the game, clutch offense and pitching to capture the team’s second win of the season. Black Sheep were down 9 – 3 midway through the game they battled back into it and nearly pulled out a comeback victory as they left the bases loaded in the 9th in defeat 12 – 9.
Larry who filled in for John as our lead-off hitter got the team off on a good note with a walk. It was what the coach had spoken to him about prior to his at bat so we could get on the scoreboard early. Jeff and Brady scored Larry on back to back singles. Shawn Bernard then moved Jeff and Brady into scoring position on a deep ball to LCF were Sean McDevitt would drive them both home on a line drive to RCF off the fence for a 3 – 0 lead. Black Sheep would tie the game up by the end of the 2nd on hits in the 1st from Bobby, Andrew & Kellen and Brett, Shawn and Greg Fraser, (who had 3 hits on the day), in the 2nd.
With the score 3 – 2 in the 3rd our team needed to string some hits together for a big inning. Larry & Jeff got us going again with a 1b and 2b that set things up for a 3 run homer deep to left from Brady. McDevitt would later knocked in Shawn who had just hit a 3b off the LCF fence. Wayne would 1b to drive in the 5th run of the inning to put us ahead 8 – 3. Mark & Stephen increased the lead in the 4th by getting 1b’s that enabled Larry to knock in or 9th run of the game for a 9 – 3 lead after the 4th. Things continued to look good with our offense as Wayne and Ian drove home 2 more runs in the 5th for a nice 11 – 3 lead.
However, our lead was not comfortable as it turned out. Black Sheep would fight back in their 5th with 4 runs with the key hit coming on a 3b off the fence by Coach Brett. They made it a game again 11 – 7 after 5 innings. It was time for the Green Monsters to step it up on defense. The infield did as they kept the ball from getting through the corners for doubles and up the middle thanks in part to Stephen, Wayne and Mark. Their efforts would keep the force on for key outs.
As the game headed to the 8th with us holding onto a 4 run lead it was important that we increase it. The coach beat out an infield hit to score Ian to put us ahead 12 – 7 heading to the bottom of the 8th. Now things became very interesting as Black Sheep would cut our lead to 12 – 9 as Brett & Shawn scored.
In the 9th we did not score giving Black Sheep one more chance to pull out a great come from behind effort. They nearly did if not for Stephen making a nice grab on a grounder down the line at 3rd and Shawn Bernard ending the game by getting the final hitter to pop it up with bases loaded. As we all left the field we knew that although the team did not have a great game it did come away with another win early in season and with the feeling if it can put everything together we will contend for a championship.

FOREVER YOUNG JUST BEATS GREEN MONSTERS 10 - 9

We played well against a good opponent in Forever Young who just a week ago hit 12 homers and put up 39 runs. Although we lost to them 10 – 9, Shawn Bernard kept Forever Young off their game all day with his pitching. Some commented to Coach Neal that Shawn was tough to hit as they could not sit on any of his stuff. Our defense had some nice plays in support of Shawn. John (Scoop) at SS had another strong game, Wayne made a spectacular diving catch in LCF to prevent a big inning by Forever Young and McDevitt came up with 6 catches in left field. If a couple of plays late in the game turned out different we may have pulled out a nice victory. However, we should still come away knowing we put up a good fight.
With the score 0 – 0 in the top of the second Ian would get us going with a sharp single. Todd followed up with a single. Paul then hit an RBI doubled to drive in the first run of the game. The coach later hit a line drive single to right scoring Mark and was followed by another RBI single from John who collected 4 hits as the leadoff hitter. Forever Young would bounce back with 4 quick runs and tow more in the third putting them ahead 6 – 3 heading to the fourth.
In the fourth, Mark hustled out a double and later scored on a single by the coach. Forever Young came back with three runs to give them a 9 to 4 lead. Paul would knock in a run and Stephen would load up the bases with a single to right which set up a sacrifice fly for the coach as he hit to left scoring Mark. John would later knock in a run by going to the opposite field for a productive out. Wayne followed with an RBI single to bring us within a run 9 – 8 as both teams headed to the seventh.

It was a very questionable call by the umpire. Mark would later hit a double that would have scored Ian, but that was not the case on this day. Forever Young ended up scoring the winning run the bottom of the seventh to give them the 10 – 9 victory. They could have scored more runs that inning if not for a great diving grab by Wayne in LCF with runners in scoring position.
The game ended on a tough note in the ninth. Shawn Bernard singled to start the inning and may have scored the tying run on a deep line drive to RCF by McDevitt that Nick for Forever Young made a great game saving catch on near the fence. Although it was a tough game to lose the team showed it can play against Forever Young and will be a tough to beat this season.

GREEN MONSTERS BEAT STOUT MEN 19 - 13 WITH 13 RUNS IN THE 9th INNING!!!

Nice way to get the season off on a good note with a great comeback victory! The team displayed timely hitting in the 9th and good defense to support a nice pitching effort from Shawn Bernard who filled in for Todd.
Ian got us going in the second with a double. John followed up with a single which set up Brady for an RBI line drive single to score the first run of the game and our season. Larry and Stephen would drive in the next two runs before Jeff hit a Sac Fly for our fourth run as we headed to the bottom of the inning. Stout Men did score one run in their second and may have put up more if not for a spectacular grab at first by Sean Mcdevitt.
In the third, Ian hit a sac fly to score McDevitt, but Stout Men followed up with 4 in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 5. The game for the next few innings saw both teams come up with some nice fielding plays, one a great diving stop of a ball heading up the middle that John made. An ESPN WEB GEM! Brady and Wayne also made a two nice grabs going back on the ball in Left and LCF. The defense played well for the most part on both sides the pitchers kept their teams in the game with a good job on the hill.
With the game tied heading to the 6th Brady stepped up to the plate and hit a shot over the fence to put us ahead by a run. It was impressive for several balls got knocked down earlier by the wind. Stout Men would not give up as they came back to tie the game in seventh and take a 4 run lead in the eight. They scored the go ahead run on a missed tag of the runner at home plate by the Coach with two outs.
Then the fireworks came in the ninth. The team showed something it did not display much of last year which was to pull out come from behind wins, by scoring 13 runs on 14 hits. The team lifted the spirits of its coach by pulling for him as he beat out an infield hit to get the rally started. Jeff followed up with a sharp single, Shawn Bernard, McDevitt and Ian collected RBI singles to bring us within one. An all out hustle down the first base line by John would score Ian for the tie. Larry would hit a single later (after getting hit earlier in the nuts tough guy). Stephen followed up with a single to RF putting runners on at second and third with the coach due up. He surprised everyone with a line drive single scoring two runs on the first pitch that also ended up being the winning runs of the game. Jeff would then drive in Neal with a solid double. The team would continue to hit as Wayne and Shawn collected singles setting up McDevitt for a two run double. Ian would drive in the final run of the inning on a single. Stout Men did manage to score three more runs in their ninth, but it would not be enough as we pulled out our first win over them 19 to 13.
DEFENSIVE STARS: Shawn Bernard pitched a good game keeping his team in it. The defense gave him support with several key plays at very important times. Sean McDevitt on his early play at first, John, known as scoop, with a web gem diving grab of a ball up the middle, Shawn Bernard on a great heads up scoop throw to first after coming of the mound for a ball and finally two nice catches by Brady and Wayne on balls hit to the fence. Kudos to Larry on his stop by his family jewels at second.
OFFENSIVE STARS: Jeff collected 4 hits, Brady 3 hits one a HR & 3 RBI’s, Ian 3 hits with 3 RBI’s, Stephen & Shawn Bernard 3 hits each, Mcdevitt 2 hits for 3 RBI’s, Larry, Wayne, John and the Coach 2 hits each with Neal getting the game winner for 2 RBI’s. Team collected 26 hits for 19 runs great job!!!
Ian got us going in the second with a double. John followed up with a single which set up Brady for an RBI line drive single to score the first run of the game and our season. Larry and Stephen would drive in the next two runs before Jeff hit a Sac Fly for our fourth run as we headed to the bottom of the inning. Stout Men did score one run in their second and may have put up more if not for a spectacular grab at first by Sean Mcdevitt.
In the third, Ian hit a sac fly to score McDevitt, but Stout Men followed up with 4 in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 5. The game for the next few innings saw both teams come up with some nice fielding plays, one a great diving stop of a ball heading up the middle that John made. An ESPN WEB GEM!
