Fellas

Hit Squad suffered another Loss with sloppy play on the field on Friday vs. X-Men. This brings our overall record to 1 - 4. Fortunately, we have 6 games left to salvage our season.

Let's refocus our attention on how to win games instead of LOSING them. We all need to work on our defensive skills. OF needs to try to read the ball better of the bat and make the correct throws. Always try to listen to your counterparts in the field also try hit your cutoff man. This will limit the opposing team to a single instead of a double. These guys are skilled and aggressive in the league.

IF make sure you are on your toes and in the ready position when the pitch is thrown. Have your glove down and ready. Look the ball into the glove before you try to make the play.

If we do this we can minimize these mistakes. Remember, if we limit our ERRORS we can win. We have the offense to do it (remember we scored 21 runs before?!?!) but our DEFENSE is SUSPECT...hell it's been AWFUL lately. I don't know about you guys but I was EMBARRASSED last game (not only by the way I played but the way we played as a team). Too many ERRORS made its way onto the field which lead to MANY UNEARNED runs! We gave away the last game and we will continue to do so if don't correct it.

Aight nuff said about the negatives...

Now the positive...Good thing is at least this one is in the books. We can start with a clean slate and move on. Let's forget about these last couple of games think about the next and play tough D. Let's turn these L's into W's. I don't know about you guys but I"M TIRED OF LOSING AND LOOKING LIKE FOOLS!!!! WHAT ABOUT YOU!

DO IT!! Focus on the NOW!

Next Game vs High Rollers!

Check the schedule and let me know if you're in!

Thanks, E

Recap: Smith Barney vs Hit Squad

6/13/2008
Recap:
We began the game with NO UMP (well if you want to consider the blonde chick the ump, I guess you can) for the first 2 innings. During these 2 innings we looked flat, dead, lethargic…etc, letting Smith Barney strike first by getting 2 runs in. This low energy continued into the later innings but with some great pitching by Chris Coward, he was able to keep us in the game (only letting up 1 run in the next 4 innings).

Being down 3 – 0 going into the 6th, Scott "Boom Botty" Santamero (ex-Hit Squad member (filling in)) started off the inning by ripping a single to left. Next up was Ed “@%@” Lam. Ed laced a triple into the gap in left-center bringing in “Scotty boom botty” to bring the lead down to 2 runs. Mike “The Freak” Wang, knowing we needed base runners, followed with a tremendous walk, (he even tossed the bat aside before the ball landed, knowing he drew a walk) – Great job! The icing on the cake came in the next at-bat from The Matrix (Tai Ly). With one slap of the bat, he crushed one in the left-center gap. First to score was Ed "@$%" Lam, however, “The Freak” was watching to see if the ball was about to be caught. But “The Matrix” would not have this as he was already on "The Freaks" tail pushing him to score and eventually scoring himself to bring in 3 RBIs. Those 3 RBIs included what was the tying and go-ahead runs.

In the final inning, Chris Coward held Smith Barney to 0 runs to ice it allowing only 3 runs all game.

In all, GREAT WIN!

It was a good showing offensively last week. We were able to bat around in the order and grab big hits when it counted. I applaud that effort but unfortunately, we lost a heartbreaker to AXA Falcons. The final tally was 23 - 21.

Defensively we are still struggling out there. I understand half the team couldn't make it and we were playing out of position but that isn't an excuse to all the E's made that game. Hopefully, with a full squad, we can prove that we belong in this division.

We started out 0 - 2 before. This is nothing new to this team. We've come back in years past to make it to the playoffs and even one year make it to the championship game. I still look to all of you to do this again. You guys are a bunch of athletes that have proven themselves before so let's do this again.

This coming Friday we'll show that we are game to produce both offensively and defensively. The key to winning our games is limiting our mistakes. If we can do this game after game, I can say we can make it to the Championship game.

See you all on Friday at the Fields. Confirm your spot.

Stats will be updated later.

Thanks, Ed

Overall, it was a pretty decent outing our first game. I see much promise in this team and look forward to playing some good games this year.

We had some good defensive plays. Notably, Tom Zodda coming out from behind the plate to GUN down a runner with at first base with one step left. Glad to see he has rifle of an arm. And who can forget the play by Ed Lam, laying out like a $5 whore to make a miraculous catch only to find the ball hiding in his glove. Of course, this was after he leapt, closed his eyes and prayed to catch it.

Although there were some nice plays on the field, there is always work needed defensively. We need it every year. But fear not, I know this is going to come around as the season progresses. It does every year. First game is always tough since we are still shaking off the rust from the winter.

Offensively our bats were alive for the first three innings scoring ALL 7 runs. Leading the way was Jesse Marraffa (3 for 4) with 2 singles and a TRIPLE…yes a TRIPLE…I’m glad to see this guy has some wheels. Following Jesse, was Tai “The Matrix” Ly, who went 2 for 3. As our lead off man, it’s good to see him on the bags. But from the 4th inning on, our bats became non-existent and seemed to become as though we didn’t know how to hit.

Despite the lackluster hitting after the 3rd inning and a very strong defense, there is much promise with this team. I know both 'Defense' and 'Offense' will come as we play more games but let’s not try to wait for games to work out the kinks. Get out and practice a bit. Call someone out and throw around or hit the cages if you need to work on hitting (you guys can always call me, I’m always up for practicing 646.544.3476). The division we’re in is a tough one but like I said before “I have confidence in this team and I think we are more than capable of holding our own.

PLEASE LOG INTO THE SITE and CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE FOR THE NEXT GAME. ALL THE INFO IS LISTED THERE. (Please let me know if you are having problems with the site. I’ll try and help).

Thanks
Ed

4/23/2008
Guys

I've heard some problems with the site displaying 'players information' correctly for people of the team to view. Just log on and update whatever you need to: number, position, right-hand or left-handed...etc. Hopefully, I can have it updated to show the proper info.

It should work b/c we can see Dave is a fan of Barack Obama. Go to 'Team Stats' and click on his name to see his friend Barack.

Thanks, Ed

Let's get ready to play ball

4/15/2008
Aight Ladies
Just wanted to provide you all an update on the softball season. Our first game is Wednesday, April 30th @ 7pm vs. Gotham Empire. Despite communication to the commissioner and head umpire, we were placed in Division 2 softball league. This division is the same as it was last year.

Those that were here last year, know that this division is a very good division. All teams are pretty tight offensively and defensively. It even includes the League Champions 'X-Men'. I don't know about you guys but I'm always up for the challenge of de-throning the reigning Champs.

As always, I think the group assembled is a good group that can hold their own. Let's go out and prove it! And Have Fun doing it!

Thanks, Ed
