OK guys, here’s the info for this Sunday. I didn’t hear from anyone about BP, so just come ready to do some damage. I think our defense has been really solid lately, lets keep that up and focus on going up to the plate and taking smart at bats. The key is to keep the lineup moving and the runs will add up.

We are now 10-6, the Titans (11-7) split with the Headhunters and remained tied with us for first. We are playing the Gladiators who are 7-8 and 1 in our division. They are 2 and ½ games behind us and the Titans in the standings. The Gladiators have the same record as Lightning Strikes, so lets do our old team a favor and take 2 W’s!

Ok, looks like we got nice weather tomorrow, so lets play 2 (3 if we absolutely must). In my experience, if there is one disadvantage to having the week off is that the team that has the bye usually come in a little cocky and often out of sync. All we need to do is to build on our momentum from last week. No one has told me otherwise, so I assume we will all be there - I plan on going with the same strategy and line up as last week. Alain will start and Lee gets game 2 (if anyone has any other suggestions or ideas, let me know).

Otherwise lets improve on last week and continue going up to the plate with a loose, batting for average mentality and continuing with focused, strong and solid defense. It is important that we strike first and often and if we fall behind, we have to believe we have the ability to take it back. The goal now is a championship, whatever your role is in the next 2 weeks, be ready to step into it and produce.
WE CAN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE EET!

FIELD DIRECTIONS; SMOKEY OVAL (PHIL “SCOOTER” RIZZUTO PARK) 125TH ST and ATLANTIC AVE

To get to the field you can take the Southern state/ belt to the van wyck north and get off at atlantic ave. Make a left and go a few blocks to 125 st. Coming from the LIE/Grand central, go to van wyck south and get off at atlantic ave, make a right and go a few blocks to 125 st. (I am not sure if you can go onto the van wyck south directly from the grand central ) If someone does know please post it.

As much as I would have loved 2 wins and first place, I am happy on how we finished. After losing game I, winning game 2 by scoring 3 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th for the walk off was what we needed to do. Hector - nice job of taking care of business in our first at bat in the 7th! HK is one of the stronger teams in the c-division, this win shows that we are ready to face them and the other top teams in our playoff bracket.

As for the division championship, I got the bad news that even if we finish with the same record as HK, they would get the tie breaker since they scored more overall runs than us, head to head. I am already negotiating with jay to get us division “almost there” division shirts : ). So even though next week will not be for the division, it is important that we play the Aces tough because they will also be in our playoff bracket as well. Think of this as a warm up game and lets remember what blue said, “we were approaching hitting too anxiously. The best way to approach the playoffs is to be loose at the plate and focused on the field. So lets tighten up our defense and have fun, it is time to believe we belong.

*We play at T2 at Cunningham, that’s off the Clearview on 73rd by the park house.
* Rich will be away but may pull an Alain and drive back from AC. (By the way, thanks Alain)
*Leland and Lenny are officially on the active roster and will both be there.
*Scott is getting his cast off Friday and hopefully will be good for the playoffs.
*If anyone else can not make it, let me know asap.
*Our treasury is at negative 17, everything is paid except the blues for the next 2 to 4 weeks, if you owe club dues, please have them on Sunday

The Stranglers had a minor setback at the hands of the HeadHunters, dropping both games this morning.

Game 1 started with a few misplays which were too reminiscent of our dog days at Lightning Strikes. We formed this team to get away from that type of play so let's get it out of our systems and remember playing firsts... first strike thrown, first outs, first hits and first runs scored.

Game 2 was a bad decision on my part. I wanted to bring in the Kid to pitch in the 7th inning of the first game to see what he had in a game situation. Instead, I let him start game 2 and he got into an early jam. Alain pitched great, shutting them down from the 2nd to 7th and our 4 runs in the 6th should have been enough.

Having said that, 4 and 1 runs is not us, I am confident that we will be back on track next week. Nobody needs to press on this team. Don’t be afraid to take patient at-bats and wait for a pitch you want. Listen guys, it's easy to play when you're winning. The true measure of this team is how we handle things when we don’t. Tough games today guys, let's keep our heads up high, everybody do what you need to do to come prepared and let's put this ship back on course!

The plan has always been and still is DCSS!

Next week, we are at Cunningham #11. It's on 73rd Ave between Francis Lewis and the Clearview. It is one of the fields in the middle of the park.

Hector and Scott(DL) are out.

Carl has officially joined the active roster and will be there.

Tom will be back.

As for pitching, I will give the kid another chance, hopefully with a big lead in game 1. If it doesn’t work out, we will pick up the search from there. I know Alain and I are good with him pitching 2, but ultimately for the spring we will need a committed and consistent second pitcher.

We have 10 from the active roster next week, if anything comes up you will need to let me know ASAP. John will fill me in on alternates, but either way, I am happy with the 10 we will have.

After a shaky start, the Stranglers quickly righted the ship and easily handled the Wolfpack with 2 wins this morning. Alain was great as he pitched both games with ease and the offense continued on the path it's been going. I liked the Mookie/Backman combination of Mike and Eric, 1-2 - they really produced some havoc on the base paths! This brings us to 6-0 and sets us up nicely for a shot at division champs. Our next game is at the same park and then we move to Cunningham . After that it's 2 more weeks before playoffs. I am glad that last weeks distractions were not an issue and I like the way we are all playing together. Keep it up guys.

JAMES AND CARL FILLED IN NICELY AND JAMES INDICATED HE WOULD BE AN ALTERNATE BECAUSE OF HIS SCHEDULE AND CARL IS DOWN BUT MAY NEED TO BE OUT IN A FEW WEEKS BECAUSE HIS WIFE IS HAVING A BABY. I AM PUTTING HIM DOWN AS AN ALTERNATE ON THE ROSTER AS WELL.

TOM IS OUT 1 MORE WEEK

NO ONE TOLD ME THAT THEY CANT MAKE IT, SO IF THERE IS A SCHEDULE CONFLICT LET ME KNOW ASAP. OTHERWISE I ASSUME THAT EVERYONE ELSE WILL BE THERE.

JOHN AND ALAIN - HOLD OFF ON THE OTHER 2 PLAYERS UNTIL MIDWEEK, WHEN I GET A PICTURE OF WHO WE HAVE AND THEN I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHO AND HOW MANY TO BRING DOWN. SEND ME THEIR NAMES AND I WILL PUT THEM ON THE ROSTER. AS WE DISCUSSED WE WILL MAKE THE DECISION ON GETTING A PITCHER AND 1 OR 2 MORE FIELDERS FOR THE ACTIVE ROSTER SOON. THE PLAN IS TO ROTATE PLAYING THE ALTERNATES OVER THE NEXT FEW GAMES AND SEE WHO WOULD MAKE THE BEST FIT.

Week 1 nets 2 wins for the Sunday Stranglers, 18 -0 and 12 -4. Looking forward to more of the same as we continue. Great effort by everyone, I especially liked the game 2 triple play!

Next Sunday we play the 3 and 1 Gattos at their field on 202nd Street and Jamaica Ave. It is right below Cunningham and easy to get to. Please be there by 8:45 (directions posted below). Let's keep with the road gray color scheme. I like the gray shirts Hector bought, until we win this thing and get our championship shirts for the spring, I wouldn’t be against getting them if others agree. They are $5 each, so let's see what everyone else thinks on Sunday.

So far, I know Rich can not make it. Please email me if you will not be available, if I don’t hear from you, I assume you will be there.

We have a big and talented roster, as long as I know in advance, I don’t mind if you need to miss a week here and there. As long as 6 guys don’t decide they can't make it on the same week we will be fine. If you miss a week, I will count that as the week you sat out. Guys need to be prepared for the possibility of playing the field one game and hitting the other and if we have over 13,the possibility of playing 1 game that week. The reality is that if we have all 14 or 15 guys, some guys will need to play 1 game that week. 13 and under pretty much guarantees everyone plays both games. When it happens, I will alternate who sits out, with no one sitting out a second time before all sit out once (remember, taking a week off counts as sitting). If that doesn't sit (lol) right with you or anything else is bothering you, don’t hesitate to let me know. I don’t know if I can always fix it but I rather people communicate rather than grumble and moan behind each others' backs. Having said that let me end by saying that you are all good players, so lets stay positive, pick each other up and play hard! SEE YOU SUNDAY!

TO GET TO THE FIELD, YOU CAN TAKE THE CLEARVIEW TO HILLSIDE AVE AND CONTINUE DOWN HOLLIS COURT BOULEVARD UNTIL YOU GET TO JAMAICA AVE AND GO WEST TO 202. I THINK IT IS A LITTLE BIT CLOSER IF YOU TAKE THE GRAND CENTRAL TO FRANCIS LEWIS GO SOUTH AND THEN GO WEST WHEN YOU HIT JAMAICA.
